Terra Kimono - The brand

The Problem With Modern Kimonos

When Mygi.shop Co-founder Fabio Luz started Jiu-Jitsu back in 1998, kimonos were different. They were tough. Durable. Almost indestructible. You could train hard, wash them a thousand times, roll every day — and those kimonos simply never died.

But over the years, something changed.

Modern kimonos wear out fast. The seams pop, the fabric thins, the collars collapse. And we began to wonder: Why?

One day, a consultant told us something unforgettable:

"If a product lasts too long, it doesn't generate repeat sales."

That was it. The industry had shifted. Companies started producing weaker, less durable uniforms — not because they lacked technology, but because it increased turnover.

Why We Needed Our Own Kimono

We run Jiu-Jitsu academies. And when we decided to sell kimonos in-house, the goal was simple: unify our team and improve student retention from day one.

A student comes in, loves the class, and buys their kimono right after. No searching online, no guessing about quality, fabric, or fit. Buying the wrong kimono slows down progress and becomes expensive fast.

At first, we sold products from other brands — including large and famous companies. But quickly, reality hit:

  • these brands are not B2B-focused,
  • their customization for academies is poor,
  • they demand huge minimum orders,
  • they take 60 days to deliver — usually with delays,
  • and the final cost becomes high, especially with inventory sitting on shelves.

And when something went wrong? We couldn't fix it. We had zero control over quality and zero ability to solve problems quickly.

So we made the hardest — and best — decision: we would create our own kimono.

The Journey

Our first kimono was terrible. The second too. And the fifth. And probably the tenth.

We tested more than 15 suppliers in Pakistan and China. Every time, the same problems came back:

  • inconsistent sizing,
  • color differences from batch to batch,
  • crooked stitching,
  • weak fabric,
  • and no continuity in production quality.

It was one of the hardest challenges we ever faced. But we refused to compromise — no matter how long it took.

We studied. We learned. We tested again and again.

Today, we have strong, aligned suppliers who understand our standards and deliver consistently.

The Birth of Terra Kimono

What should we call a kimono that represents our culture, our origin, our roots?

The answer came naturally: TERRA KIMONO.

Inspired by Brazil. By our land. The land of Jiu-Jitsu. The land of fighters. The land of champions.

Terra Kimono is more than a uniform — it is an identity. A return to tradition. A commitment to durability, reinforcement, and real quality.

Every Terra Kimono goes through a detailed checklist: reinforced seams, premium cotton, structured collars, precise sizing, and durability far above the market standard.

It's not just gear.
It's our heritage.
Our identity.
Our Terra.
